Anne Theresa Gilroy Carey was born in Avoca on Jan. 19, 1919, daughter of Edward and Bridget McHale Gilroy. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Parochial School, Avoca, and St. John's High School, Pittston.
Anne die September 17, 2003 in Moses Taylor Hospital Scranton, PA. She was 84 years of age.
Aunt Anne’s funeral was held Saturday September 20, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. from the Ruane and Regan Funeral Home, 1308 Grove St., Avoca, with a Mass at 10 in St. Mary's Church, Avoca, with the Rev. Joseph Elston officiating. Interment was at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
Aunt Anne was very religious. My sister Nancy and I would stay with Aunt Anne and Uncle John frequently when we were young. We had to say the rosary, on our knees, every night after dinner. But she could be fun, too, and let us get away with a lot. (I got away with it only because I was with Nancy, whom Aunt Anne adored.) |
